URBAN HOUSING

The urbanization rate in Niger is the lowest in West Africa, comparable to Ethiopia, Uganda and Burundi. But unlike these countries, despite the recent nature of the urbanization process, this rate only slowly and should not exceed 20% in 2030. The urbanization rate also remains low outside Niamey (11% in 2010) and the number of urban poor. Demographic projections do not include the emergence of new settlements until 2030.

Note that the administrative perimeter has little meaning in the Sahara since the integration extensive areas adds only little or no additional inhabitant. (1)
